When I was painting this piece I wanted it to feel like everything was moving so fast that time itself was starting to change. I distorted the background because the car is basically racing against time. I got inspiration from Back to the Future and how once they hit a certain speed they were able to travel through time. I wanted that same feeling where the faster the car goes the more everything around it starts to disappear and shift. I also wanted the car to glow almost like a shooting star flying through the sky because of how fast it’s moving. This piece was made specifically to fit into my client’s space and I wanted to make it personal to him too by adding his lucky number 14 onto the car. For the car itself I didn’t want it to just look like a normal F1 car. I wanted to bring my own style into it by adding a lot of texture and making it feel painted and imperfect while still keeping the overall piece simple. To me “Race Against Time” is that feeling of moving fast through life while time is moving just as fast with you.
